The Picts and the Martyrs - Arthur Ransome

This is a great novel bey the author who won the very first Cilip Carnegie award over 70 years ago with the first book in the series: Swallows and amazons. The book has characters that we love and know but it is a very different book to the other ones in this series. Ransome has created stories of adventure so good that all children will wish that they were the characters in the book when they read it. Shivering Timbers and barbecued bobcats these are Brilliant works!

This was a great read! A bit confusing at times as it slides from past to present tense regularly. But other than that it is fairly easy to get through. I enjoyed this book because of the adventure and mystery it has in it. 8/10 This was an intriguing read.

Like ghosts, spirits. Graveyards? Well read the book! Winner of the Carnegie medal 2010 this book is full of mystery. Can young  Bod, who has been raised in the graveyard escape the man Jack, who has already killed his family? An irresistible book, deserves to become a modern classic.  7/10 A masterpiece.
