Department 19: Battle Lines - Will Hill

Battle Lines is intense, that is the one comment which I will put before any others. The intensity makes it an adrenaline rush, it makes the book exciting: it makes this book stand out as a phenomenon!   Will Hill shows us all of his talent once again as a stunning writer and it gives us hope for the future when we think about possible new series' and new novels written by him.   I for one cannot wait to see how the rest of this series pans out and you should join me because if they continue to be as good as this one and the last few, we are in for a treat!... 10/10 To Tweet or not to Tweet, that is the question @TheOllyBookBlog (also the address for Google+) You could also comment if that is there being one such question, no? (Shakespeare would indeed be proud...)

Department 19: The Rising- Will Hill

After I have 'reloaded' The Olly Book Blog and given out some new reviews accessible from 'Anywhere' we have a new Department 19 novel to look at, Yay! The book is the second in this wonderful series and a review of the third book is to be released on the site shortly.   Onward and forward though because I  have to continue with applause for Will Hill's astounding style and finesse. The story is great also, it is at least as good as the last (or first dependent on your take on grammar) installment if not better. Personally the quality of the written word was fantastic for me but I know of others who didn't enjoy this book very much for reasons undefined in my opinion. 9/10 Tweet me on Twitter, (@TheOllyBookBlog) it's the same tag for Google+ or Comment me on- well err. The comments?...

Agent 21: Reloaded - Chris Ryan

So we now turn to the legendary Chris Ryan for our action and adventure stories, he does tell a fast tale full of adrenaline!   At some points the writing in my opinion was a little unrealistic, and one particular point at the end could was massively predictable, although during the ending sequences of the novel I was hoping for an alternate ending, an ending different to the one that I was expecting. This time my wish wasn't granted. All in all though the book does provide entertainment and I'm looking forward to the next book in this series. (I just hope that the events are  completely  new...) 8/10 Still good, still good. Is your Twitter account still good? If so then please head onto @TheOllyBookBlog If your account isn't good you could always use the comments...

Anywhere - Jon Robinson

Hi everybody, I'm really sorry about the evident lack of books posted onto my blog recently, there has indeed been a massive shortage in posts due to just how busy I've been!...   So without further ado we are going to head on-wards straight into today's review: A book that I received for Christmas after loving the first in its series; Nowhere.   The book is thrilling and it adds a whole new story-line to the first book, and I'm telling you now. It isn't a bad story-line or even an okay one: it's good, and when I say good I mean amazing! Jon Robinson really surprises us with a sequel that is even better that the first novel in the trilogy: yes, I did say trilogy. The next book is due to come out later this year, which reminds me: Happy New Year! (Just a little bit late, oops...) 10/10 Remember to comment your thoughts or send them along to me on Twitter @TheOllyBookBlog

A Street Cat Named Bob - James Bowen

This touching story will open your eyes to the world around you and show you how the streets of London actually work. A really heartfelt tale by an author who really does tell it as it is. I sped through it as it is so smoothly and simply written, younger children would do well to read the child version. You should also look out for the second book and the third which is focused on Christmas at this time of year. 10/10 Tweet me @TheOllyBookBlog and don't forget to comment, oh and Happy Christmas!...

Department 19 - Will Hill

This was a fantastic book with a really gripping story-line! The first in what will be a series of praise for the author, that's for certain! The vampire novel puts a different light onto secret agent and Gothic books at the same tie, combining the two to make one thrilling encounter within its pages. I have to say that if there's one book that should be on your "to read" pile at the moment- its just going to have to be this one!... 10/10 What can I say? It's great, now I want to know what you  have to say... As always folks, comment or tweet me @TheOllyBookBlog

The Hunted - Charlie Higson

This book has a thrilling chase with small parts of the story so far focused in on to create on bigger picture for readers to see. It was a piece of the series that I was very interested in as well, so that made the book really exciting for me.   No worries folks, this one is not the climax, phew! However I have a strong feeling that it is the penultimate novel in this great series of books... 10/10 Fantastic, wouldn't you say so? Tell me in the comments or on Twitter @TheOllyBookBlog, Thanks again guys!...

The Fallen - Charlie Higson

This one was an excellent read with new characters and adventures to bring new things to the series so far. Charlie Higson has really come up with clever ideas throughout the Enemy books, more so towards the end of the series. 9/10 Comment here or tweet me @TheOllyBookBlog

Skulduggery Pleasant: The Dying of the Light - Derek Landy

This was a little of a disappointment in some ways, the ending chapters were a bit confusing but that didn't stop the read from being utterly compelling in every way!   I would say that a different ending would have worked well but the starting potential of the book maybe created a sense that the read would be ore than it was... 9/10 Good things for comments. Good things also for tweets to @TheOllyBookBlog

The Sacrifice - Charlie Higson

Yet another book by Charlie Higson! Hip, hip, hooray! This time the series is evolving in strange new ways and better plots emerge all the time. This read will keep you on your toes and of course, that's the best kind of read!... You will enjoy this novel if you enjoyed it's predecessors but be warned, for the story to make sense you must  read the rest of the series first . 9/10 Have you thoughts on this one? Well then I'll see you in the comments, and that person at the back, yes you! I'll see you on Twitter @TheOllyBookBlog

The Saint of Dragons - Jason Hightman

This took a while to read because of the intricate writing, even though it is a series of books I believe that the novel should have been a single book to keep the writing to a limit which would have improved the quality. 7/10 Tweet me @TheOllyBookBlog to tell us your opinions, you could also comment below...

Artemis Fowl and the Seventh Dwarf - Eoin Colfer

A world book day special novella has came our way with something fowl inside it... Yes I know, that was a bad joke- but then speaking of humour there isn't much in this book compared to the others. Possibly due to it's size and also because of when it is set, which is just after the first or second book. This fact is not confirmed though it is definitely early on in the Fowl adventures.   The ending of this one shows the first real sign that Artemis may not be as evil as he looks to be. This is portrayed as a twist however and a very good one too, this story is also included within the: Fowl Files book which I am yet to read, as I am with The last Guardian. 8/10 Do our views match? Do they differ? Only you know and only you can tell me. You can do this in the comments or alternatively on twitter @TheOllyBookBlog

Agent 21 - Chris Ryan

Lovers of Robert Muchamore listen in, because if you loved Cherub you'll enjoy this book too! From an ex SAS  Solider this book really fires up action and adventure to satisfy even the most hungry thrill seekers. The book has a very fast pace but Cherub still beats it because there is a larger variety of characters in Muchamore's world. If you liked Alex Rider rather than teen spy agencies then this could be the novel for you... 10/10 It still gets that golden number, did it achieve greatness in your eyes? Tell me in the comments or on twitter @TheOllyBookBlog

Artemis Fowl and the Atlantis Complex - Eoin Colfer

Another great read this time with another unforeseen twist which will maybe confuse you a bit as the novel is a little complicated in sections but all in all the book is still good. I've not rated it as high as the others due to it's story-line, it does fit together some pieces but in some ways it just feels like it serves the purpose of filling up a spine and two covers. To spread the series out a little further, however the writing was slick and stylish which doesn't make it's rating decrease much at all!... 9/10 Have you read this one? Do you want to?
